Search Engine Marketing Continues to Thrive
Leading provider of performance-based online marketing solutions comments on 2007 State of
the Market Survey results
New York, NY – July 15, 2008 – According to findings from a recent survey, search engine
marketing continues to exceed industry expectations, while traditional marketing functions such as
print advertising and direct mail are losing ground. zanox, the global market leader in
performance-based multichannel commerce, has spent the past eight years harnessing the power of
search engine marketing on a global scale since the company’s inception in 2000. By
leveraging search publishers in the zanox network, which encompasses more than one million sales
partners in 200 countries, the company is able to generate highly targeted sales on behalf of
global advertisers.
“Search marketing continues to thrive because savvy marketers understand that search engines
create greater awareness for their products and services more efficiently than newspapers, TV and
radio combined,” said Christopher Dessi, Vice President of Ad Sales for zanox, North America.
“We know that consumers spend the majority of their time online looking for product information,
and an increasingly large portion are purchasing products via search engines.”
As reported in the 2007 State of the Market Survey, conducted by the Search Engine Marketing
Professional Organization (SEMPO), revenue for SEM in North America increased 30 percent to $12.2
billion, up from $9.4 billion in 2006. Such growth comes as no surprise to many, especially as more
and more consumers rely on search engines to conduct their pre-purchasing research. Even with the
slipping U.S. economy, SEM spending in North America is now projected to grow to $25.2 billion in
2011, a significant increase from last year’s forecast of $18.6 billion.
“As we continue to see a shift in marketing budgets with dollars traditionally reserved for
other functions such as print advertising and direct mail now being allocated to SEM and online
media, it’s becoming more apparent that organizations of all sizes recognize the value of online
marketing and it’s clear impact on the bottom line,” concluded Dessi.
